Kathleen Battle (born August 13, 1948) is an American soprano.
She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and studied voice at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Battle is known for the silvery timbre of her lyric coloratura voice, and has been a particular favorite of conductor James Levine.
Disputes with the Metropolitan Opera in New York led to her highly-publicized firing; despite this, Kathleen Battle remains a favorite on the concert scene.
