Kaoss Pad
|
The Korg Kaoss Pad is foremost a sound processing unit that is unique in that the variables by which the unit processes an incoming audio signal are controlled by a finger touchpad in the centre of the unit, rather than by knobs and switches. This allows for a more intuitive and creative manner of modulation than had previously been seen in music technology.
The Kaoss Pad also features MIDI out, allowing the user to control other equipment via the touchpad interface, and the ability to sample an incoming sound and 'mangle' it in a variety of different ways using the touchpad.
Korg have released an updated version of the Kaoss pad, the KP2, with a number of new features, and more recently the KPE1 - a Kaoss pad that can process both sound and video.
A Kaoss Pad was used by Radiohead in their song 'Everything in its right place', specifically its forward/reverse sampler function.
