Kangar

Kangar is a town in Malaysia, with a population of 48,898 and is the state capital of Perlis. It is in Peninsular Malaysia and is situated on the Perlis River, 45 kilometers north of Alor Setar. Downtown Kangar is a mixture of old and new shophouses, and has an elegant colonial State Secretariat building and clocktower from the 1930s. Another major landmark is the former state mosque, Masjid Alwi, built in 1910.
It is belived that the name Kangar was derived from a species of hawk named Kangkok or Spizaetus Limnaetu.
