Kalam

Kalam (Arabic: علم الكلم) in Arabic means speech or discourse and refers to the Islamic tradition of seeking theological principles through dialectic. It also refers to the trend in Islamic thought of scholasticism, somewhat akin to the rabbinical tradition of ascertaining the law. Followers of Kalam are referred to as Mutakallimun.
