KSCI is an independent television station in Los Angeles, California which broadcasts on channel 18. It devotes most of its programming to the Asian audience. The station has programs and news in Mandarin Chinese, Tagalog (Philippines), Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Occasionally, it has programs in Khmer (Cambodian), Indonesian, Armenian, Arabic, and Persian. Their motto is "Speaking your language", with different language shows airing in different time periods. There are programs, including some of those in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, that are subtitled in English.
KSCI also has a number of programs in English and Hindi that feature music videos and entertainment news from Bollywood, as well as regular news from the Indian subcontinent. There are also a number of religious programs, in English, Korean, and Japanese, shown mostly in the very early morning hours. The station broadcasts infomercials in the remaining time slots.
There is a locally produce Mandarin-language TV show called "LA Living" with Juliette Zhuo as its host. It deals with life in LA for Chinese-Americans with guests. KSCI also has the Korean-language "LA Seoul" program. KSCI also sponsors Los Angeles-area Asian-American events.
In early 2005, KSCI changed its name to LA18, through the call letters remains the same. Their new motto is "Keeping You Connected."
Trivia
KSCI has been broadcast New Wave Theatre with Peter Ivers in the early 1980s. The program featured local rock and punk LA bands such as Fear, X, The Blasters, Circle Jerks and The Dead Kennedys. The show was later picked up by USA network's Nightflight.
