James Thaddeus "Jim" Goad is an American author and publisher, noted for the controversy surrouding his (now defunct) magazine ANSWER Me!.
He was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He met Debbie in New York City. They married and moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a journalist. He moved to Portland, OR in 1994.
Goad culled much sordid material for his magazine, which he edited with his late ex-wife, Debbie Goad. They published four issues before running afoul of authorities with #4 (the "Rape Issue"), which offered a multifaceted view of the phenomenon of rape. It was discovered for sale at The Newstand by a young woman attending Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA who passed it on to a battered women's shelter. The woman threatened to kill Goad several times and was eventually arrected for second degree assault. Details of this are available on his website.
Goad has authored two books: The Redneck Manifesto, wherein he explores themes of lower class white disenfranchisement from a unique vantage point; and Shit Magnet, his autobiography (written while in prison).
He was also contributed a piece of his writing to the book Apocalypse Culture II. His infamous piece "Let's Hear It For Violence Toward Women" was featured on the Boyd Rice album entitled Hatesville.
He is the object of a vendetta by anti-racist skinheads in Portland.
Goad currently administers a website which has an archive of his old articles and new items as well. He is currently working on a book about NASCAR.
