According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.2 km² (8.6 mi²). 22.1 km² (8.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.23% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,401 people, 968 households, and 671 families residing in the city. The population density is 108.6/km² (281.2/mi²). There are 1,122 housing units at an average density of 50.7/km² (131.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.96% White, 1.08% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 968 households out of which 31.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 27.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.97.
