Jared Fogle

Jared Fogle is a spokesman used by Subway restaurants in its television commercials.
In March of 1998, Jared was a student at Indiana University who weighed 425 lb (192 kg), and he began a 1,000 calorie a day diet consisting of nothing but the food available at his local Subway sandwich shop. Almost one year later, he weighed 190 lb (86 kg). Given his height of 6' 2" (1.88 m), this translates into a BMI decrease from a morbidly obese 55 to a healthy 24½. During this time, he also began walking to classes. His rapid weight loss drew the attention of his college newspaper, and that account later got attention by the Associated Press. Men's Health did a story of Jared, and this led to the Subway sandwich company approaching Jared as its spokesman. Jared graduated IU with a degree in Management and International Business. Jared now maintains his weight with a normal 2,400 calorie a day diet.
Subway has used Jared in a number of television commercials and employed him to make in-store appearances around the United States. Though he is a visible symbol of the company, the Subway Sandwich corporation does not actually endorse Jared's weight-losing diet.
Jared has made appearances with the USO at Guantanamo Bay, as well as lectures with YMCA, where he endorses living a healthy lifestyle.
