Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz
|
Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz (January 12, 1751 - May 24, 1792) German writer of the Sturm und Drang period.
Lenz was born in Seßwegen/Cēsvaine, Livonia and died in Moscow. He met Goethe at Strasbourg, although later they had a falling-out, and Lenz publicly lampooned him. Lenz's plays, such as Der Hofmeister and Die Soldaten generally centred on social criticism, although his poetry was much darker and can be seen as a sign of a conflicted mental state, and later insanity.
