Jackson Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Jonesboro and as of 2000, the population is 15,397.

Geography
The parish has a total area of 1,503 km2 (580 mi2). 1,476 km2 (570 mi2) of it is land and 27 km2 (11 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 1.82% water.

The racial makeup of the parish is 71.01% White, 27.87% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 0.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,086 households out of which 31.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.80% are married couples living together, 14.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.30% are non-families. 27.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.01.
