Jack Donovan Foley (1891 April 12 Yorkville, New York–1967) was the developer of many sound effect techniques used in filmmaking. He worked on the first sound picture, The Jazz Singer, as well as pictures such as Melody of Love, Showboat (1929), Dat Ol' Ribber, Spartacus, and Pink Submarine.
Those who work on sound effects in films are often called "Foley artists".
