In Christian practice, intercessory prayer is the act of one person praying for or on behalf of another person or situation. The prayer intercedes on behalf of the subject, in the hope that God will answer the prayer accordingly.

Islam
Intercession is a petition made of God on behalf of others. According to Muslim doctrine, on the Day of Judgment the prophet Muhammad intercedes on behalf of his community (the muslims), and Muslims (all or some) are permitted to intercede on behalf of their loved ones.
