Indian Police Service

The Indian Police Service (IPS) is one of the all-India Services of the government of India; others being the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Engineering Service, Indian Economic Service etc. Its members, who are all university graduates, are the senior officers of the police, with Inspectors and Constables belonging to individual state forces.
The Indian Police Service was established under British rule, when the vast majority of its members were Europeans.
