Impi Linux
|
Impi Linux is a South African Linux distribution. Version 1 was based on Debian and included components from Gnoppix and Knoppix, while version 2 (released 6 October 2004) is not based on any distribution. It aims at being the first business desktop Linux distribution that is tailored specifically to the needs of African users. The latest release is Impi 2005 UP2, released in June 2005.
The goals of the project include software customization and localization to the eleven official South African languages. In addition to providing a free and powerful software environment, the authors of this distribution also demonstrate that Africans can be self determined in the digital world.
The project name refers to the Impi Warriors.
