Ilya Kovalchuk

Ilya Kovalchuk (born April 15 1983, in Tver, USSR) is a professional Ice Hockey Left Wing in the NHL, playing for the Atlanta Thrashers.
Kovalchuk has played all of his NHL seasons for Atlanta. He was drafted first overall in the 2001 Entry draft by Atlanta - the first Russian to be drafted first overall in NHL history. His best season was 2003-04, when he had 87 points, and tied for the NHL lead in goal scoring with 41. He wears the number 17 as a tribute to the late Valeri Kharlamov, a Soviet superstar in the 1970s
