Haskell County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 6,093. Its county seat is Haskell6. Haskell County is named for Charles R. Haskell, killed in the Goliad massacre.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,358 km² (910 mi²). 2,339 km² (903 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.80% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,093 people, 2,569 households, and 1,775 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (7/mi²). There are 3,555 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 82.78% White, 2.79% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 11.67% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 20.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,569 households out of which 27.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.60% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 29.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.86.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.70% under the age of 18, 5.70% from 18 to 24, 22.10% from 25 to 44, 22.90% from 45 to 64, and 25.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 88.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $23,690, and the median income for a family is $29,506. Males have a median income of $23,542 versus $16,418 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,918. 22.80% of the population and 16.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.00% of those under the age of 18 and 15.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
