Guido de Marco

Guido de Marco (born July 22, 1931) was President of Malta from 1999 to 2004.
He studied law and served as a lawyer for the government. He was elected to the Malta House of Representatives for the first time in 1964, and became Secretary-General of the Partit Nazzjonalista in 1972. In 1977 he was elected deputy leader of the party, a post he occupied until he was named President of the Republic in 1999. He was also foreign minister of Malta from 1989 until 1996 and from 1998 until 1999, and chairman of the United Nations General Assembly from 1990 until 1991.
