Great Pit of Carkoon

In the Star Wars universe, the Great Pit of Carkoon is located within the Dune Sea on the planet Tatooine. The large depression in the sand is the home for the rapacious, if slow-eating, creature called the Sarlacc.
Its proximity to Jabba's Palace makes it an ideal killing spot, which Jabba the Hutt used for executing enemies.
Jabba attempted to kill Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi by throwing them into the Geat Pit of Carkoon. However, he was foiled when Han Solo activated Boba Fett's jetpack, and he was sent into the pit. This caused chaos allowing them all to escape.
In the Expanded Universe it states that Boba Fett didn't actually die in the pit. He, instead, set off explosives and killed much of the Sarlacc inside. One can only assume it is less threatening now, but still should be treated with extreme caution.
