Golden West Airlines was a airline that operated flights on a heavy schedule in California.
History
Golden West began in 1968 as Aero Commuter, operating between San Diego, Palm Springs, Palmdale and Oceanside. By 1969, the airline had changed its name to Golden West Airlines.
Golden West expanded heavily across California through the 1970s, to include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Catalina Island and multiple other cities. Because of California's tourist appeal, Golden West was able to become partners with several domestic and international airlines, and by 1975, they were partnered with, among others, Aer Lingus, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, American, Delta, Eastern, Japan Airlines, TWA and many others.
By 1981, much of Golden West's service was concentrated around their flights to the Santa Catalina Island.
Growing competition from other airlines, such as United Airlines and America West Airlines, drove Golden West Airlines out of business by 1984.
