Gilli-danda
|
Gilli-danda is a game popular across the length and breadth of India. It is usually played by using a small round stick, about as long as a baseball or cricket bat. This is the danda. There is another small and slightly cylindrical shaped billet of wood. This is the gilli.
The objective of the game is to hit the gilli using the danda. The gilli is put on the ground and the danda is used to strike it so that it flips into the air. Then the danda is used to hit the gilli again while it is airborne. The person who can hit the gilli the farthest in this manner is usually proclaimed the winner. There are many popular local versions on the same theme.
