Gardnertown is a hamlet ( and census-designated place) located in Orange County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 4,533.
Gardnertown is in the Town of Newburgh, northwest of the City of Newburgh.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.7 km² (4.9 mi²). 12.7 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.20% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,533 people, 1,624 households, and 1,221 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 357.2/km² (925.8/mi²). There are 1,674 housing units at an average density of 131.9/km² (341.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 84.84% White, 6.57% African American, 0.33% Native American, 1.57% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.37% from other races, and 2.32% from two or more races. 10.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,624 households out of which 37.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% are non-families. 20.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.79 and the average family size is 3.23.
