GR 20
|
The GR 20 (or fra li monte) is a GR footpath that crosses the Mediterranean island of Corsica from north to south. 20 is the number of the department of Corsica. This is a real mountain hike, though no climbing is required and like everywhere in mountains, there is real danger in case of bad weather; some, with some sense of hyperbole, will even qualify this path as one of the hardest in Europe. The whole trail can be walked in 15 days. Experienced hikers can do it in fewer days. The trail consists of two parts: the northen part and the southern part. The northern part starts in Calenzana and stops in Vizzavona. There you can take the train to Bastia or Ajaccio. The northern part is the most difficult part, because of the steep and rocky paths. The southern parts goes from Vizzavona to Conca. This part is more easier. Many hikers walk from north to south, but it is also very popular to walk from south to north.
If the GR20 is too difficult, there are also other beautifull trails on the island. The Mare e monti and the mare a mare trails are the most known.
