Freedom Socialist Party
|
The Freedom Socialist Party is a Trotskyist political party that originated as the Seattle branch of the Socialist Workers Party and was founded when the branch left the SWP in the mid 1960s. Richard Fraser and Clara Fraser were its main leaders until their personal and political relations collapsed, leading to a split and divorce. The Freedom Socialist Party is allied with the feminist group Radical Women. Still based in Seattle, it has expanded into California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon.
The party consideres the SWP's James P. Cannon as a major influence. It is particularly supportive of the Cuban Revolution as well as the People's Republic of China.
Internationally, it has small affiliates in Australia, where the FSP belongs to the Australian Socialist Alliance, and in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
