Franklin County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 20,285. The county's county seat is Carnesville, Georgia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 690 km² (266 mi²). 682 km² (263 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.15% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,285 people, 7,888 households, and 5,695 families residing in the county. The population density is 30/km² (77/mi²). There are 9,303 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (35/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 89.49% White, 8.83% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.41% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 7,888 households out of which 31.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% are married couples living together, 10.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.80% are non-families. 24.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
