Florence Township is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 10,746. Florence Township is governed under the Faulkner Act (Mayor-Council) system of municipal government.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 26.3 km² (10.1 mi²). 25.1 km² (9.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.14% water.
Florence Township borders Burlington Township, Springfield Township, Mansfield Township, Bordentown Township, and the Delaware River.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,746 people, 4,149 households, and 2,891 families residing in the township. The population density is 427.3/km² (1,106.5/mi²). There are 4,391 housing units at an average density of 174.6/km² (452.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 85.52% White, 9.74% African American, 0.18% Native American, 2.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 2.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,149 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% are non-families. 25.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.10.
In the township the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.
