Flemish Primitives
|
The Flemish Primitives were a group of painters active primarily in the Southern Netherlands in the 15th and early 16th centuries.
Chief among them were:
- Jan van Eyck
- Rogier van der Weyden
- Hugo van der Goes
- Hans Memling
- Robert Campin
- Dirk Bouts
- Gerard David
Because of the ambiguity of the word "primitive", art historians prefer the term "early Netherlandish painting".
