Fanlisting
|
A fanlisting is a website created by a fan of a particular subject, with the aim of gathering together a list (either in database format or hardcoded HTML) of other fans of that particular subject. The actual concept has probably been around for a long time but the term 'fanlisting' as a one-word noun was first used when Janine Mischor created The Fanlistings Network in 2000.
Fanlistings are most often devoted to celebrities, movies, books, TV shows, and such, but they have also been created for subjects ranging from plants (http://thefanlistings.org/browse3.php?show=nature&sub=nature_subcat&start=2) to colors (http://thefanlistings.org/browse3.php?show=miscellaneous&sub=miscellaneous_subcat&start=2) to condiments (http://thefanlistings.org/browse3.php?show=fooddrinks&sub=fooddrinks_subcat&start=3).
The opposite of a fanlisting is a hatelisting, a list of people who dislike a certain thing. Hatelisting subjects include celebrities, movies, books, TV shows, as well, but also stuff like bad manners (http://www.smartitude.net/listing/hate/bad/), cancer (http://www.geocities.com/forgottenduck/shattersplash.html), and thunderstorms (http://hate.spiffy-ness.ca/boom/).
