FFA competitions

There are many different kinds of competitions in Future Farmers of America. Three are detailed here.
One of the hardest competitions is called quick recall. It is like Jeopardy: there are two teams and those two teams have three people on the stage at a time. There are two judges and one speaker who asks the teams questions. Each player gets a buzzer and a name tag so the judge will know on whom to call. The teams are asked a question by the speaker which does not have be related to agriculture. It might be math, English, science, or another subject. Everyone gets 15 seconds to answer the question. The first person to hit the buzzer gets another additional 15 seconds to answer the question. Correct answers add to the answering team's score.
Another popular competition in FFA is the animal judging. This is a competition that gets all kids ready for the fair if they do take animals. Instead of the competitors taking their own animals to be judged, they judge animals from different counties and districts. The competitors who are judging the animals get a score. Their scores are determined by the accuracy of their assessment of the animal. The top ten students through the whole season of animal judging go to state. In state those students compete against all the top ten students from each district.
The final most popular competition in the FFA is the meat judging. There are six students allowed on one meat team and each school is allowed one team. The teams are presented with flash cards by a judge and just like quick recall you have to hit a buzzer but all of your teammates are allowed on the stage at once and you get one minute to answer what type of meat is on the flash card and what animal it is from.
In all of the FFA competitions the winners get a chance to go to the state competition, which is a mark of pride to the students in the competition because it gives them the feeling that they have made a difference by completing a goal that they set for themselves.
