The F-302 Fighter is a fictional spacecraft in the science-fiction television show, Stargate SG-1. It is the production model of the X-302 prototype and the first production series craft using reverse-engineered knowledge of alien technology.
Like its counterpart, the Goa'uld Deathglider, the F-302 is an unshielded, two-seat strike craft. Since Earth's technology is still less advanced than that of the Goa'uld, the F-302 is slower and less maneuverable than a Glider, even though (or because) it possesses three different sets of sublight engines. It also has a fourth engine, a Jump Window Generator, which is the smallest of its kind due to its use of Naquadria. Unfortunately, the 302's FTL engine currently does not work, due to instability caused by the Naquadria. Furthermore, its inertial dampener is only ninety percent effective when pulling negative G's. Also, since Earth's efforts to create a directed energy weapon have so far proven unsuccessful, the F-302 is armed solely with a payload of modified air-to-air missiles. These modified AIM-120s AMRAAMs have a warhead enhanced with Naquida and a shield modulator, which in theory allows the missile to bypass shields. While these weapons are extremely effective against Deathgliders, they are less potent against larger targets, like an Al'kesh. Also, since the F-302's missile armament is limited, it cannot stay in combat nearly as long as a Deathglider, whose plasma cannons provide it with near-unlimited firepower.
By the end of Season 7, Earth has constructed its own small fleet of F-302 fighters and engaged the Goa'uld in combat. At least one squadron has been completed, dubbed the "SnakeBusters" (although there are probably more). It was the first major success in Earth's attempts to build aircraft to fight the Goa'uld.
