The Wild Buckwheats form the genus Eriogonum in the flowering plant family Polygonaceae. They are found in North America. This is a highly species-rich genus, and indications are that active speciation is continuing. It includes some common wildflowers such as the California Buckwheat or the Mount Diablo buckwheat (Eriogonum truncatum) which was belived to be extinct but was rediscovered in 2005.
