Epiphany (feeling)
|
This article is about a feeling, for other meanings see epiphany (disambiguation).
An epiphany is a sudden intuitive realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something. The word's secular usage may owe some of its popularity to James Joyce, who expounded on its meaning in the fragment Stephen Hero and the novel Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916).
Among hackers in the proper sense of the word, the word "zen" is used as a verb in the same sense, to mean acquiring a sudden comprehension. Similar to grokking, but not done over time.
