Elle Driver is the name of a character in the 2003 Quentin Tarantino film, Kill Bill, played by Darryl Hannah. Driver is a cruel and heartless assassin and the current lover of the mysterious and enigmatic killer Bill, (played by David Carradine). Driver was a member of an elite group of bounty hunters, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Elle Driver had also trained with Pai Mei, the violent and irritable Chinese martial artist that trained both the Bride and Bill. However, Driver used poison to kill Pai Mei, whom she perceived as being "a stupid, old fool," demonstrating her apparent aptitude for treachery. Driver, along with the other three members of the squad, attempted to kill fellow member the Bride/Beatrix Kiddo (played by Uma Thurman) at a Texas wedding chapel. After Kiddo's near-death, Driver began a relationship with Bill, earning the displeasure of Bill's brother Budd and leading to a fatal enmity between the two. Surprisingly, the Bride survived in a coma for four years, only to return with a vengeance, killing or seriously injuring all other members of the squad. the Bride was unable to kill Budd, however, as Elle had already killed him by planting a black mamba in a bag of money she had left for him. Driver's subsequent battle with the Bride ended inconclusively as the Bride merely blinded Driver by plucking out her remaining eye. However, the fact that Elle Driver was left in Budd's dilapidated trailer with an angry black mamba makes her survival higly unlikely.
In the movie, Driver's codename was California Mountain Snake.
