  • Following redistricting in 2000, Sawyer ended up in Ohio's 17th congressional district. In the Democratic primary election in 2002, he was defeated by Tim Ryan, who was elected to that seat in the general election. The redistricting also brought LaTourette into the 14th district. LaTourette had previously been an incumbent in the 19th district, which was eliminated.
