Election (movie)
|
Election is a 1999 film adapted from a novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta. The film was directed by Alexander Payne and stars Matthew Broderick, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Klein.
Three candidates vie for the position of president of the student government at an American high school. The race begins with a candidate considered by many to be unbeatable: Tracy Flick (Witherspoon). The teacher in charge of the election and the student government, Jim McAllister (Broderick), finds the notion of Tracy walking away with the election distasteful. He encourages Paul (Klein), a popular athlete sidelined by a skiing injury, to run against her. Paul's younger sister enters the race out of spite. The run-up to the election includes several scandals.
