Eldorado is a city located in Saline County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,534. Although the city's name appears to be derived from Spanish, it is pronounced IPA /ɛldəˈɾeɪɾoʊ/ (listen).

Eldorado is located at 37°48'51" North, 88°26'27" West (37.814212, -88.440937)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.28% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,534 people, 1,945 households, and 1,182 families residing in the city. The population density is 761.1/km² (1,967.8/mi²). There are 2,236 housing units at an average density of 375.4/km² (970.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.26% White, 0.35% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.02% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,945 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% are non-families. 35.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.86.
In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 24.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 84.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.0 males.
