Eldersburg is a census-designated place located in Carroll County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 27,741.
Geography
Eldersburg is located at 39°24'3" North, 76°57'5" West (39.400802, -76.951475)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 109.1 km² (42.1 mi²). 103.8 km² (40.1 mi²) of it is land and 5.3 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.89% water.
Eldersburg is often referred to as "E-Burg" or "The Burg" by its younger residents.
There is also an upcoming film, tentatively titled "Life In the Burg". Plot details have yet to be disclosed, though it will be filmed locally.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 27,741 people, 9,138 households, and 7,502 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 267.3/km² (692.2/mi²). There are 9,382 housing units at an average density of 90.4/km² (234.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.63% White, 3.17% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,138 households out of which 44.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.9% are non-families. 14.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.25.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $70,851, and the median income for a family is $75,848. Males have a median income of $51,473 versus $34,728 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $25,639. 2.4% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.9% of those under the age of 18 and 4.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
