Efferent nerve fibers carry information away from the central nervous system. The brain controls locomotion, for example, by efferent signals to the muscles via motor nerves. Afferent nerves and signals carry information toward the central nervous system. In the peripheral nervous system, nerves are dedicated exclusively to either afferent or efferent signalling.Template:Anatomy-stub
