Easton is a town located in Talbot County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,708. It is the county seat of Talbot CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Easton is located at 38°46'18" North, 76°4'14" West (38.771594, -76.070456)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 27.0 km² (10.4 mi²). 26.7 km² (10.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.15% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 11,708 people, 5,031 households, and 2,882 families residing in the town. The population density is 439.3/km² (1,137.6/mi²). There are 5,399 housing units at an average density of 202.6/km² (524.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 71.75% White, 23.45% African American, 0.17% Native American, 1.79% Asian, 0.36% Pacific Islander, 1.50% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 3.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,031 households out of which 27.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.9% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.7% are non-families. 36.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the town the population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 84.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.2 males.
