Earlville, New York

Earlville is a village located in New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 791. The village is named after Jonas Earl, a canal commissioner.

The Village of Earlville lies on the border between Madison County and Chenango County and is partly in each county. The village is in the Town of Sherburne and the Town of Hamilton. The east-west thoroughfare, Main Street, runs along the county line and Route 12B crosses in the center of the village.

History

The area was first settled around 1795 and was originally called The Forks, until the current name was adopted around 1835.

Geography

Earlville is located at 42°44'28" North, 75°32'38" West (42.741079, -75.543827)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 791 people, 298 households, and 219 families residing in the village. The population density is 282.8/km² (729.4/mi²). There are 329 housing units at an average density of 117.6/km² (303.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.99% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 298 households out of which 36.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% are married couples living together, 13.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% are non-families. 20.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $32,500, and the median income for a family is $33,654. Males have a median income of $27,381 versus $24,038 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,383. 11.8% of the population and 9.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.6% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
