Dougal Haston

Dougal Haston (1940-1977) was a Scottish mountaineer born in Currie near Edinburgh. With Doug Scott, he was the first to climb Mount Everest by the south-west face and he the first Briton to climb the north face of the Eiger. In 1970 he climbed the south face of Annapurna with Don Whillans on an expedition led by Chris Bonington. Later, he became director of the international climbing school at Leysin, where he was killed by an avalanche while skiing.
