|
Domovoi Butler, usually referred to simply as "Butler", is a fictional character in the Artemis Fowl series of books by Eoin Colfer. Butler is Artemis' bodyguard, both highly trained and loyal, he has become a sort of father/older brother figure to Artemis. Butler is nearly killed in the beginning of the third book (Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code) by Arno Blunt, but is revived by fairie magic used by Holly Short. When Butler is revived by Holly, he has aged by several years, causing him to hand over the position of Artemis's bodyguard to his sister, Juliet. He was become too old for this buisiness, not to mention, due to a few complications, he can't breathe as easily as before, further impairing his physical activities. However, he still remains a figure of wisdom and support to Artemis. He revealed his name to Artemis when he was about to die, revealing to the young genius two things: his friend had been named for a Slavic guardian spirit, and that the academy Butler trained at instructed their students never to reveal their first names. Butler only broke this rule because he thought it no longer mattered. Little is know about Butler's family, besides his sister Juliet. It is also revealed in Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident that Butler's uncle was Artemis Senior's bodyguard.
