Dexter Remmick is a character in the fictional Star Trek universe played by Robert Schenkkan. He appeared in the TNG episodes "Coming of Age" and "Conspiracy".
Lieutenant commander Dexter Remmick was an officer of the Inspector General's office when he beamed aboard the Enterprise-D on stardate 41461.2 (2364 in the modern calendar) with Admiral Gregory Quinn to conduct a thorough investigation of the ship, under Quinn's orders. The exact nature of the investigation was kept a secret, and this uncertainty, combined with Remmick's intrusiveness in his investigation, drove tensions very high on the ship. His questions centered around the apparent unfitness of Captain Picard for duty. Despite the crew's strong objections, Remmick seemed to be intent on finding problems with Picard and Picard's handling of the ship, picking through every discrepancy in the captain's log and interviewing the bridge staff. Despite an apparent bias against Picard, Remmick's report was ultimately one of praise, saying that nothing was wrong on the ship. After delivering his report, Remmick said that he would like to serve on the Enterprise after the completion of his tour in the Inspector General's office.
However, this did not come to pass. A few months later, when the Enterprise returned to Earth on stardate 41775.5, Remmick was working at Starfleet Command, having been transferred in the interim (well before his tour at the Inspector General's office was scheduled to end). He had apparently been transferred there by the alien infiltrators who had compromised the Federation. It was determined that he hosted the parasitic mother creature, and he was killed by heavy phaser blast on the part of Picard and Riker, who subsequently destroyed the mother creature, which in turn killed all the other parasites as well. Shortly before his death, Remmick (under the control of the creature) sent out a homing beacon, but none of the species ever answered it.
Remmick has the distinction of having had one of the more graphic death scenes in Star Trek history. Picard and Riker's phasers melt the flesh off his face, exposing his sinew-covered skull, then blast a hole open in his rib cage.
