Dawn chorus
|
The dawn chorus occurs when song birds sing at the start of a new day. This is most noticeable in spring, when the birds are either defending a breeding territory or trying to attract a mate.
In some territories where birdlife is extensive and birds are vocal, the sound of a dawn chorus can render early morning sleeping impossible. This has been especially noted in the forested areas of New Zealand, which has been rich in birdlife as a result of the pre-historical absence of predatory species and hence abundance of bird species.
