David Michael Farrell "Phoenix" (born February 8, 1977) is the bass player in the band Linkin Park.
Phoenix was born and grew up in Plymouth, Massachusetts until later moving to Mission Viejo, California when he was 5. He is a graduate of UCLA and along with the bass he can play cello, guitar and violin.
He was a member of Xero which was the beginnings of Linkin Park. When the band was starting out, Phoenix and fellow bandmate Brad Delson were room mates and they practiced together. Although he became a member of the band he could not record or perform live with them because he had to finish touring with his previous band Tasty Snax, a Christian punk band that later changed their name to The Snax. He played guitar in that band but upon rejoining Linkin Park in 2001 he has stayed with the bass. He plays cello and violin on Linkin Park's Reanimation album.
His greatest inspiration is his mother who taught him how to play guitar and his older brother Joe. Some of his musical inspirations are Weezer, Beatles, Deftones, The Roots, Bob Marley, Sarah McLaughlin, Hughes & Wagner, and Harrod & Funck.
Phoenix has been married to wife Linsey since December 28, 2002.
