Data East

Data East(データイースト) was a Japanese game company that filed for financial reorganization in 1999 and finally declared Bankruptcy in July of 2003. The company is most famous for Karate Champ, Heavy Barrel, Burgertime and Bad Dudes. Data East also made pinball tables from 1987 through 1996, and included innovations such as the first pinball to have stereo sound. The pinball division was purchased from Stern Electronics in 1985 and sold to Sega in 1996. Data East also had a brief stint as a Neo-Geo arcade licensee in the mid-1990's.
