Dale City is an unincorporated place located in Prince William County, Virginia. Recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census designated place (CDP), the community had a total population of 55,971 as of the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 39.0 km² (15.0 mi²). 39.0 km² (15.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 55,971 people, 17,623 households, and 14,327 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,436.9/km² (3,721.1/mi²). There are 18,171 housing units at an average density of 466.5/km² (1,208.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 56.85% White, 28.76% African American, 0.42% Native American, 5.07% Asian, 0.19% Pacific Islander, 4.27% from other races, and 4.43% from two or more races. 9.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 17,623 households out of which 48.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% are non-families. 13.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.17 and the average family size is 3.48.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 3.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.2 males.
