Dís is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth. She was a female Dwarf, daughter of Thráin II and sister of Thorin Oakenshield. She was the mother of Fili and Kili, and the only dwarf-woman ever named by Tolkien.
Female Dwarves are rare in Middle-earth, and seldom are seen outside. When they are seen, they are often mistaken for male dwarves, because (according to rumour) they too have beards.
