Crown entities
|
A Crown entity is a type of organisation that forms part of New Zealand's state sector. Most crown entities come under the following subtypes:
- Crown-Owned Companies (CROCs) -- some, but not all registered companies wholly owned by the government
- Crown Research Institutes (CRIs) -- registered companies formed from the former Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)
- school boards of trustees
- universities
- colleges of education
- polytechnics
- wānanga
Notable crown entities include the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Limited (NZSO) and Television New Zealand Limited (TVNZ). Despite being in majority Crown ownership, Air New Zealand Limited is not a crown entity. State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) are not crown entities, but are another type of state sector organisation.
