Crown Street, Wollongong
|
Crown Street is the main street in the City of Wollongong, New South Wales. It was created in the early 1800s from a cattle track which follows a ridge from Mt. Keira to the first farm house in the area, and quickly became the "main" street of the then town. It is now a major shopping area after being turned into a mall in the 1980s. The pedestrian only zone of the now wide spread mall, serving the local area, stretches from the corner of Crown and Keira Sts. to the corner of Crown and Kembla sts. named after the local mountains, Mt. Keira and Mt. Kembla. The mall includes two Archways and a Feature made when it opened in the 1980s. Every Friday the area turns into a market.
