Crowland
|
Crowland (modern usage) or Croyland (medieval era name) is a town in Lincolnshire, England, positioned between Peterborough and Spalding, with two major sites of historical interest. One is the unique 14th Century three-sided bridge, Trinity Bridge, which stands at its central point, the confluence of three rivers, the other is its ruined medieval Crowland Abbey, founded by St Guthlac in the 8th Century. The Croyland Chronicle, an important source for medieval historians, is believed to be the work of one of the monastery's inhabitants.
